1890 Extension Building

I decided to do my package on the building of the new 1890 Extension Building. I sat down with executive Delbert T Foster on the future plans for the building and what South Carolina State students should look forward to coming from the 1890 building. And also the remodeling of Camp Henry Daniels.   Heres the story below

Newscast

Recording a 2minute Newscast was on todays agenda for class.  We were required to write up a script for the newscast that included topics of South Carolina State news, local news, sports, and weather. Its was really important to type the script in ways that made it easier to read while on camera in a more conversational way. I even included a story about James Shaw

Reel

We were asked by our professor to put together a Newsreel that consist of some of the reports we've done in our broadcasting classes at South Carolina State University .  This was such a fun assignment to do and I really enjoyed the process from writing the script to actually recording the stories

Q&A

I decided to do my Q&A assignment on the reopening of the museum to gain more insight on whats to come for South Carolina States very own Standback Museum and Planetarium. This interview is filled with plenty of information about the museum and what goes on behind the scenes.  

Overall this assignment was a great experience and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process! I"m glad I chose the museum as my interview objective.

H&M Media Frenzy!

For those of you who don't know social media was on overdrive with the new collection of hoodies from clothing company H&M. one of the hoodies they released were on a little black boy and read "Coolest Monkey In the Jungle".

My Crew and I decided to hit the yard and ask students of South Carolina State University their views on this breaking News!

New Book Alert

Over the break I read George Jackson "Soledad Brother" . 

I've been wanting to read this book for the longest, so I decided to read it during my long needed vacation from school.

The story itself was mind blowing and is still painfully relevant to this very nation today!

With every page I turned I was pulled into the story even more.

I would really recommend this book to any race so that they could see that the same systematic racism still exist.

George Jackson letters filled me with all kinds of emotions, Anger most of all.  May his knowledge and powerful voice continue to sore through oppression. 

Final Project

For my Final project we were told to do a promo video or another picture in picture video for 30 to 60 seconds video. I choose to do another picture in picture video because I really enjoyed the assignment and I wanted to incorporate my favorite person in the world which is my little cousin Indya who we call "pop" in the family dancing. I edited the Video in Adobe Premiere

Team Studio Recording

For my team studio recording project my classmates and I decided to a sports segment. My two anchors were Stephen Mason and Marshall Padgett. I took on the role as the producer/director and made sure everything went smooth sailing in the production room which included working the tricaster and the sound board.  Working behind the scene was very exciting and I look Forward to doing it again!!

Picture in Picture Project

I decided to do my project on my favorite artist and all around favorite human being Erykah Badu. The video you'll see is window seat which was a very controversial video and centered around the ideal of Group think and what happens when you go against. I edited my project on adobe premiere.

I really enjoyed this project!

Four Classic Lighting Techniques!

This was by far the most fun exercise thus far. For the four classic lighting assignment I took shots of my classmate Stephen Mason. The first shot was the Rembrandt or the 45 degree angle shot
                   

The second shot was the split or 90 degree angle  to the side of the face.

The third shot was Broad lighting 

and the fourth shot was the butterfly lighting 

Three point Lighting

Our next class assignment revolved around  "three point lighting" 

The Three Point Lighting Technique is a standard method used in visual media such as video, film, still photography and computer-generated imagery. It is a simple but versatile system which forms the basis of most lighting

we took shots with the Key light,Fill light only, backlight only, and wide view shot with all lights on

Techniques to Better Light

For our class assignment Professor Harwood led us outside to take three photos with our cell phone. the first image was a picture with the natural light behind us.

The next image we took was with another person holding a reflector up to improve the lighting

Chestnut Street Pedestrian Bridge

Such a great day to be a bulldog at SCSU!

The Pedestrian bridge is on the way!

The bridge will cross Chestnut Street at Reid Street near University Village. The ramp system will tie down to the existing sidewalk located adjacent to the parking lot and tennis court on S.C. State’s campus.

This alone will give students better access to the campus instead of crossing through traffic.

Sequence Video

For a class assignment Professor Hardwood asked for us to shoot a sequence video with our fellow class mates. I chose my classmate Stephen Mason to star in my sequence video. The assignment it self was really fun and I was glad I was able to get more experience with editing and working the camera.

One of the biggest issues I experienced was the bad lighting in the building and also my tripod gave me minor issues. Overall I believe it was a success and i'm looking forward to more hands on assignments.

Aftermath Of The Election

For a class assignment we were asked to interview students around SCSU campus on their thoughts of our new president Donald Trump. 

Many students were not pleased with the ideal and couldn't believe that this was now a reality for every citizen of the USA. Here's what they had to say!

Already Whole

In class we were given the assignment to make a Facebook Live video that had to be 5 minutes long. We could do the topic on any angle pertaining to what our blog is about. Alliyah chose to do a video topic called "Already Whole." In the video she talks about relationships and how women change themselves just to be who they think that man wants them to be.


We women should be more independent and not be so focused on the love of a man. Going into relationships looking to be a half, when we should go into it being already whole and complete, not needing another, just wanting. We need to already know our value and our worth before starting a new relationship. Going into a relationship with uncertainty, will just leave us vulnerable and dependent on the man. We are strong enough and smart enough to be our own selves not depending on anyone.


We dont need anyone telling us who we are, we need to have our own identity. We have enough problems with white America telling us how to be black and how black we can be, we dont need that from our own black men. It's time for us to stand up and stand tall and stop looking for someone to complete us when we're already whole.

Don't Touch My Hair

Across the world their are companies who believe that African American women shouldn't wear their natural hair at work because they don't think its professional. From Afro puffs to dreadlocks the disdain for the black culture of hair has been worldly shown by corporate America. A lot of African American women have been cornered into straightening their hair so that they wont stand out among their white colleagues. They are told to wear a weave because its more acceptable.


Its almost as if its not a choice anymore to be your true authentic self. black women are left with the choice to either wear their natural hair and not get hired or straighten their hair to pretend to be something they're not to work for someone who's basically saying I don't care for who you really are. What makes my blood boil more is the fact that Caucasian women with big red hair such as Julia Roberts are never told to tone their hair down because its to distracting but a women of color is often belittled for embracing her roots.


Every black woman should not have to face scrutiny in the workforce because of her natural hair. Whether if she decides to straighten or wear it in its natural state this shouldn't be a decision made by her employer. Don't touch my Fro, Don't touch my Dreads, Don't Touch my Curls,
Don't Touch My hair, because it is the feelings that I wear!

Creative Post Challenge:The Get Down Podcast

In class we were given the assignment to pretty much be creative and come up with a video, audio podcast, media slideshow or anything to show off what our blog is about. Aaliyah and I chose to do an audio podcast. In the podcast we interviewed 6 women at SC State and asked them, "Who do you think is an inspirational/influential woman in the media and why? It was such a pleasure speaking with each of these ladies.

Ode to Erykah Badu: G.O.A.T

So I'm sitting here thinking to myself, why am I the way I am. Then it hits me. Its because I was blessed to be able to have such amazing women knocking down walls. On every occasion I find myself thanking Erykah Badu. That's because to me she's one of my biggest influences. She was never afraid to be herself even if it made others uncomfortable. that alone gave me a sense of freedom,a drive to be my own authentic self. From her music to her fashion to her way of thinking, it constantly makes me want to evolve as a young black woman.

There's not many women in the industry that you can honestly say stayed true to themselves throughout their whole career and Erykah Badu is one of few. No matter what was going on in fashion or music she always seemed to march to the beat of her own drum. Erykah is Art and to me art is suppose to push the envelope and make the mind think more and the heart feel more. With Erykah Badu creating her own lane she was able to become a fixture in soul music and hip hop. She is absolutely timeless in a industry that will chew you up and spit you out.

Erykah Badu is not only relevant to my blog but also the inspiration behind it. From her style to her spirit, every essence of her was used to add a sense of freedom to this blog. The women that will be  featured on this blog will embody the phenomenal qualities like Erykah. They will be electrifying, Beautiful,Fierce, Non-conformity, and inimitable. Shes a Strong Black woman and a force to reckoned with.
